27 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

LARRY JUNE – “BAD CHOICES” (ft. 2 CHAINZ, prod. ALCHEMIST) & “I AIN’T STOPPIN”

West Coast rapper Larry June teams up with 2 Chainz and The Alchemist for a sinister new song, “Bad Choices,” and he also recently released the more pensive, ballad-driven song “I Ain’t Stoppin.”

DANESHEVSKAYA – “KERMIT & GYRO”

Daneshevskaya follows her November single “Scrooge” with a second new track, the orchestral “Kermit & Gyro.” She says it was “written in the desperation of a break-up,” adding, “I wrote it out of confusion and eagerness. It’s about clinging to the idea of what the relationship brought you and how the relationship can still be a part of you. But also feeling completely untethered and adrift.”

HUNDREDTH – “DARK SIDE”

Hundredth have changed their style up a lot over the years, and this new one finds them embracing aughts-era dance-punk. They said it’s the first single from their not-yet-announced new album.

SISTER RAY – “BELIEVER”

Toronto-based artist Ella Coyes announced a new album as Sister RAy, Believer, due out on April 4 via Royal Mountain. They’ve shared the title track, saying, “I’ve always been the kind of person that wants to believe in some kind of salvation or truth, and can’t quite make myself believe all the way. When I wrote this song I wanted to write about the liminal space that exists there, and the way it weaves itself into the beginnings of love; wanting to know this kind of all encompassing safety and trust, but feeling alienated by my own skepticism.”

STAR 99 – “KILL”

Bay Area indie-punks Star 99 have announced their sophomore album, Gaman, due March 7 via Lauren Records. Here’s the catchy first single “Kill.”

SHYGIRL – “TRUE RELIGION” FT. ISABELLA LOVESTORY & PINKPANTHERESS

Shygirl’s new EP Club Shy Room 2 is out next month, and she’s given us another preview with the sultry “True Religion,” featuring Isabella Lovestory and PinkPantheress.

EMPLOYED TO SERVE – “ATONEMENT” (ft. WILL RAMOS of LORNA SHORE)

UK metal/hardcore staples Employed To Serve have announced a new album, Fallen Star, due April 25 via Spinefarm. Its new single “Atonement” is equal parts beastly and catchy, and it features the gnarled screams of Lorna Shore vocalist Will Ramos (who’s also in the video).

SHURA – “RECOGNISE”

British singer-songwriter Shura has announced her first album since 2019. I Got Too Sad For My Friends is due out on May 30 via Play It Again Sam, the first single is “Recognise.” “Arthur Russell sang ‘being sad is not a crime’ and yet somehow when I went through a period of despair in January I felt that the best course of action was to hide myself away from the world,” she says. “I think ‘Recognise’ is a song about coming out the other side of that feeling. Slowly coming to the understanding that everything is ok. And that ok – is good. That I can sit quietly, read a book, sip a coffee and deeply appreciate being here and everything that has happened and has yet to happen…”

FREE THROW – “HEY KEN, SOMEONE METHODICALLY MUSHED THE DONUTS” (FT. TADES SANVILLE OF HOT MULLIGAN)

Nashville emo band Free Throw are releasing a 10th anniversary edition of their debut album Those Days Are Gone with guest-filled new versions of songs, including appearances by Free Throw’s Tades Sanville, Pool Kids’ Christine Goodwyne, Microwave’s Nathan Hardy, Covet’s Yvette Young, and Movements’ Patrick Miranda. The album comes out February 28 via Wax Bodega and the new version of “Hey Ken, Someone Methodically Mushed The Donuts” with Tades is out today.

MORE EAZE & CLAIRE ROUSAY – “KINDA TROPICAL”

more eaze and claire rousay are releasing a new collaborative album, no floor, due out on March 21 via Thrill Jocke, and they’ve given us a preview with “kinda tropical,” an ambient, electronic sound collage. “we made some explicit compositional choices here,” more eaze says, “like specific instruments, which help to give it a sense of place…for example, I played a really old acoustic guitar that had been at my mum’s house, when I was back visiting over the holidays, and it felt really ‘home-y.’ Making that decision felt like a call-back to the familiarity of the place the song is named after.”

CHEEKFACE – “GROWTH SUX”

Contrary to popular opinion, Los Angeles band Cheekface have come out against growth. “Growth sucks / And makes you worse,” they sing. “You gotta stay close to the one you were.”

HORSEBATH – “ANOTHER FAREWELL”

Canadian group HORSEBATH will release their debut album, Another Farewell, on February 7 and they’ve just shared the widescreen title track. “Life seems to be mostly about letting go at this point and cherishing the moments that make you feel especially human, or at least close to one,” says the band’s Keast Mutter. “There’s plenty of devastation in beauty and it sadly goes both ways sooner or later. You can only smile gratefully at it all while you’ve got a chance.”

QUICKLY, QUICKLY – “ENYTHING”

Portland, OR’s quickly, quickly (Graham Jonson) will release new album I Heard That Noise on April 18 via Ghostly International. On the new single “Enything” he says, “I wrote this song from a fictional place of dumb love. There is a place you can find yourself in where you are so infatuated with a person you would do anything to impress them, even to a fault, drastically changing yourself to match the idea of someone you barely know. That is what I tried to embody on this one.”

RAFIQ BHATIA & CHRIS PATTISHALL – “THE VOICE OF LOVE” (JULEE CRUISE COVER)

Rafiq Bhattia has collaborated with Chris Pattishall on a new EP titled Each Dream, A Melting Door. The first single is a cover of “The Voice of Love,” the song co-written by David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti and sung by Julee Cruise for the film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. “David Lynch was always searching,” says Bhatia, reflecting on one of his primary artistic influences. “Rather than treating abstraction as some sort of stuffy, elitist realm, he saw it as a way to invite us all in, recognizing that ambiguity can make space for each of us to more fully embody our own experience. He spoke out against the toxic notion of the tortured artist, reminding us time and again that art flows most easily from a place of health, curiosity, playfulness, and patience. He emphasized that art need not reflect the artist, but seemed to also understand that in certain ways it always and inevitably will.”

RATTLE – “RITUAL”

UK drums-and-voice duo Rattle will release Encircle next month and here’s another banger from it.

TEETHER & KUYA NEIL – “ZOO”

UK/Australia rap duo Teether & Kuya Neil will relaese new album Yearn IV on May 2 via Chapter Music. “It’s wild that each day, in whatever city you find yourself, there’s millions of people waking up and doing whatever they deem most important, all at once,” say the duo of the album’s first single. “It’s going to be chaos. We’re animals running wild, acting like it all makes sense. ZOO is a song we made one day where this idea felt extra strange.”

GUIDED BY VOICES – “ELFIN FLOWER WITH KNEES”

The album features new versions of songs from throughout their catalog which they debuted on their 2023 True Electric tour. They say: “True Electric consists of recordings and renditions, meant to capture the essence of our live shows bearing the same name. The idea was to put an emphasis on the clubbier aspects of our music, as well as returning to our roots within the realms of electronic music.” The first single is a new version of their 2005 single “What Else Is There?” ft Fever Ray.

It’s titled Crush Me and will be out March 21 via Ba Da Bing Records. “I thought of it later and it dawned on me that ‘Crush Me’ perfectly embodied the record,” says Cross of the album title. “Yes, the weight of a body laying limply atop yours, or the tight squeeze of a hug, can be pleasant. Go too far, and you’re in the hands of a cruel, adolescent god.”
