Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International reports steady growth with 54.8 million passengers in 2024

INDIA. Passenger traffic at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport reached 54.8 million in 2024, reflecting +6.3% year-on-year growth and a +19.41% increase compared to pre-pandemic 2019 levels.
The Mumbai gateway recorded 346,617 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs), marking a +3.2% increase over the previous year.
The statistics highlight the airport’s role as a key hub for domestic and international travel, demonstrating sustained growth while enhancing connectivity and operational performance.
The airport recorded its highest single-day passenger movement on 21 December, serving about 170,000 passengers, including 116,982 domestic and 52,800 international travellers.
December also emerged as the busiest month with 5.05 million passengers, showcasing +3.4% year-on-year growth.
The airport marked an operational milestone with over 8,000 international ATMs in December.
Mumbai Airport handled 962 ATMs on both 3 and 10 February, the highest single-day total for the year. The airport also experienced peak passenger movement during holiday seasons.
Among domestic destinations, Delhi emerged as the most popular, accounting for 18% of total traffic, followed by Bengaluru at 11% and Goa at 7%.
On the international front, Dubai led the rankings with a 16% share, while London and Abu Dhabi each captured 7% of the market.
Regionally, the Middle East dominated passenger travel, representing 48.8% of overall traffic, followed by Asia Pacific at 28.2% and Europe at 14.5%.
Additionally, Mumbai Airport expanded connectivity with the addition of international routes to Tashkent and Almaty, as well as domestic destinations such as Deoghar, Rajahmundry, Tirupati, Ayodhya and Vijayawada.
The airport also welcomed new carriers, including Nok Air, Thai Viet Jet, Salam Air, Uzbekistan Airways and Air Astana.
