Fucked Up go old-school hardcore on new Sub Pop single “Disabuse”
Both the song and the limited-edition alternate artwork take influence from Poison Idea.
Fucked Up have been insanely prolific lately, having released three albums in less than two years, most recently including November’s guest-filled Someday, and they just keep going. Toady, they’ve announced a new Sub Pop single, “Disabuse” / “Self Driving Man,” the former of which is streaming now. “Disabuse” finds Fucked Up in classic high-speed hardcore mode, taking influence (according to Sub Pop’s press release) from Poison Idea and Japanese hardcore band Paintbox, and there’s also a limited edition alternate sleeve for the 7″ that’s based on Poison Idea’s 1990 Sub Pop Singles Club 7″ (pictured above). It’s always a treat to hear Fucked Up embrace no-frills hardcore like this, and they do it as great on “Disabuse” as they did over 20 years ago on classics like “Baiting the Public” and “Police.”
