Japanese punks Ging Nang Boyz announce first-ever US tour; Shinobu reunite to open

Japanese indie-pop punk vets Ging Nang Boyz have announced their first-ever US tour, and making it even more exciting, they’ll be joined by San Jose indie-punks Shinobu, who haven’t played live in a decade (guitarist Mike Huguenor has more recently been busy playing in Jeff Rosenstock’s band). It’s a West Coast tour that goes down in late March/early April, including stops at Treefort Fest in Boise and Lauren Records’ Growing Up Is Dumb fest in LA (the lineup for the latter is coming this Friday). Shinobu also play one more TBA show right after the tour ends. Tickets are on sale now.

Shinobu write:

This spring, for the first time in 10 years, all four of us in Shinobu will be playing together again. Six shows down the west coast alongside the legendary Ging Nang Boyz (and one show without them). Back in 2006, GNB played an impromptu show at 924 Gilman. Two days later they played a show with us at our San Jose practice space. Now, nearly 20 years later, I’m hella excited to bring them back to the Bay!

Along with the tour announcement, Ging Nang Boyz have announced a new compilation album, Blue Blew, due out on March 14 via LA label Lauren Records, marking their first US album since 2007’s Libido EP. The comp includes a new version of “Nikaisen,” which was originally released as a B-side to their 2017 single “Angel Baby,” and that’s out now. It finds the band leaning away from their punky sugar rush and embracing their ballad side, and it suits them well. Shinobu also recently gave their last album, 2015’s 10 Thermidor, a 10th anniversary reissue via Lauren Records.
