Joel McHale Will Play Sidney Prescott’s Husband in ‘Scream 7’

Sidney Prescott will be married in Scream 7, but not to Patrick Dempsey‘s Detective Mark Kincaid from Scream 3, as fans have speculated.

Deadline reports that Joel McHale has been cast as the final girl’s husband, Mark Evans.

Currently in production in Atlanta, Scream 7 sees the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney, Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers, Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, and Roger L. Jackson as the voice of Ghostface.

Isabel May plays Sidney’s daughter. The cast also includes Celeste O’Connor, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Asa Germann, and Anna Camp.

Kevin Williamson, writer of the original Scream as well as Scream 2 and Scream 4, is directing the latest installment from a script by Guy Busick, who co-wrote Scream 5 and Scream 6.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the slasher sequel is expected to bring the focus back onto Sidney and her family.

Back in October, Dempsey said that there had been a conversation about his return in Scream 7. Despite McHale’s casting, it’s still possible that Dempsey returns as Sidney’s former flame.

Best known for hosting E!’s “The Soup” and starring on “Community,” McHale’s horror credits include Deliver Us from Evil, It’s a Wonderful Knife, and “Santa Clarita Diet.” He guest stars in the third season of “Yellowjackets,” premiering February 14.
