Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts declare “big change is coming” on grungy new anthem

Neil Young and his new-ish band The Chrome Hearts (guitarist Micah Nelson, bassist Corey McCormick, drummer Anthony Logerfo, and organist Spooner Oldham), which Neil is presenting in all-lowercase as “neil young and the chrome hearts,” have just released a new song, “big change,” also presented in all lowercase. The song was produced by Lou Adler, and it’s the kind of loud, shaggy rocker that you could picture Neil busting out with Crazy Horse. Its hook of “big change is coming” feels like a classic civil rights anthem, and Neil adds, “Could be bad and it could be good.” Given the state of everything right now, let’s hope it’s the latter. Listen below.

Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts are headlining Glastonbury this year, after first being announced on the fest and then backing out and then deciding to play again. Neil also recently saw the new Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and he loved it.

In addition to his new music, Neil is constantly putting out archival material, and he has another “lost” album coming out soon, Oceanside Countryside, which was recorded in 1977 and is being touted as a sibling album to 1978’s Comes A Time. It comes out on February 14. Pre-order it and read more about it here.
