Newton, Zahn Join The New “Anaconda”

Thandiwe Newton (“Westworld”) and Steve Zahn. (“Silo”) have both signed on for the comedic reimagining of the “Anaconda” franchise currently in production for Sony Pictures.

In addition, Selton Mello (“I’m Still Here”) and Ione Sky (“My Secret Billionaire”) have also signed up for the film.

Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube and Jon Voight starred in the original 1997 movie which followed a film crew aiming to document the world’s largest and deadliest snake on the Amazon. It spawned a series of increasingly bad sequels.

The new take sees “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” scribes Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten penning the script with Gormican directing the film.

In it, a group of friends face a mid-life crisis and so decide to remake their favorite film from their youth. They head to the rainforest, only to find themselves in a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.

Jack Black plays a wedding videographer who sets out to direct this ‘remake’. Paul Rudd will play a former TV actor whose Hollywood dreams are slipping further away.

Newton and Zahn will play fellow childhood friends that join the two on the ill-fated adventure. Mello will play a Brazilian animal wrangler, Skye is playing Black’s wife. Daniela Melchor also stars.

Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing the film and shooting is currently underway in Queensland, Australia ahead of a Christmas Day release.
