Nintendo Switch 2 Announced, Coming Later This Year [Trailer]

After months of rumours, speculation, and leaks, Nintendo has finally announced the successor to the Nintendo Switch with the Switch 2. No specific release date has been announced for the new console, though the slick new trailer reveals that we’ll see a release later this year.

Furthermore, Nintendo is planning on hosting a Switch 2-focused Nintendo Direct on April 2 with more information on the console and its games. There will also be a series of Switch 2 hands-on experience events will also be held around the world starting in April. Registration for the event kicks off tomorrow on January 17 at 12 p.m. PT / 2 p.m. CT / 3 p.m. ET.

As for what the specs are for the system, that’s still to be revealed. The trailer does mention that the Switch 2 will play Switch 2-exclusive games, as well as both physical and digital Switch games. That being said, the trailer also mentions that some Switch games may not be supported or fully compatible with the Switch 2. Again, those details will be revealed at a later date.

So, those of you who have DOOM, Metroid Dread, Dead by Daylight and other horror titles may want to hold on to your original Switch hardware for the time being until Nintendo clarifies things.
