Nintendo Unveils The Switch 2 In Trailer

After months of rumors, Nintendo has officially announced the Switch 2 via a trailer published to social media and YouTube channels on Thursday.

The Switch 2 resembles the first in layout, but here the controllers connect with magnets and the coloring is in a different place. The hardware will also come with a longer stand, with a wider tilt.

There’s also an extra button on the right Joy-Con, and at least one of the controllers could potentially work as a mouse. They confirmed the new console will be backwards compatible with the original Switch both in terms of physical and digital games.

They do warn that “certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2”.

The trailer puts the focus on the hardware, with only clips from a new “Mario Kart” title being shown off. A Nintendo Direct presentation focusing on the Switch 2 is scheduled for April 2nd.

Nintendo has yet to officially confirm a release date or price for the console, but players will be able to play the new machine early at a series of global events staring April 4th and running through end of May.
