The Russo Brothers are set to film “Avengers: Doomsday” early this year and then likely shooting “Avengers: Secret Wars” early next year – the projects marking the fifth and sixth overall “Avengers” movies.
It has been a long road for the movies which have undergone massive overhauls in their time, most notably when Marvel opted to pivot away from Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror as the overall villain of the Multiverse Saga.
Before that, the plan was for the fifth film to be “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” which would’ve had Jeff Loveness (“Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania”) penning the script, while Michael Waldron (“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”) was tasked with writing “Avengers: Secret Wars”.
Then, Loveness was removed from the fifth film with Waldron performing a re-write. Once Joe and Anthony Russo were onboard as directors, writer Stephen McFeely came with them and the project was transformed into “Avengers: Doomsday” with Kang nowhere in sight and Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) now the big bad.
So have any ideas from the scripts penned by Waldron or Loveness survived the overhaul? Scooper Daniel Richtman (via CBM) reports that the answer is a straight no, their sources indicate the Russos completely scrapped Waldron’s script and story entirely for “Avengers: Doomsday”.
Everything since then has being rewritten from scratch, partly why there was talk of a small delay to get the script finished in time for filming this Spring. In addition this dismisses the tlak that Doom was simply slotted in for Kang in the story.
The scooper also addd that Charlie Cox will make a short appearance as Daredevil in the film, just don’t expect him to team-up with others. “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to be released in cinemas on May 2026.
