Jason Isbell announces solo acoustic LP, shares “Bury Me”

Jason Isbell recently announced a solo tour without his backing band The 400 Unit, and now he has announced a new solo album, his first since the back-to-back breakthrough moment of 2013’s Southeastern and 2015’s Something More Than Free. Unlike those albums, though, Foxes in the Snow is literally solo; it’s his first entirely acoustic album, and he recorded it in 5 days at NYC’s Electric Lady Studios with just one guitar, an all-mahogany 1940 Martin 0-17. The first taste of the album is “Foxes in the Snow,” and Isbell hasn’t really ever released a song like this before. It’s rustic, bare-bones Americana that’s rawer than even the most stripped-back moments in his back catalog. It’s the kind of song that could’ve come out at any point in the past 60 years, and it suits Jason very well. Check it out below.

Isbell’s solo tour begins in February, including NYC-area shows at Port Chester’s Capitol Theatre on February 20, Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre on February 21 and 22, and Princeton, NJ’s McCarter Theatre Center on February 23. He also has full band shows lined up through the fall. See all dates below.
