Sony Exec On Lack Of “Bloodborne” On PC

Sony has been making strides into getting their games on PC in recent years – from their only real live service success with cross-platform title “Helldivers 2,” to ports of single player greats like “God of War ,” “Horizon: Zero Dawn,” “Marvel’s Spider-Man” and “The Last of Us”.

But amongst the PC fanboys, one title always brought up in comments and reviews is FromSoftware’s “Bloodborne”. Considered one of the greatest works by the “Elden Ring” and “Dark Souls” company, the 2015 action RPG has remained exclusive to the PlayStation ecosystem.

Even there however, the title has conspicuously gone without updates – still stuck at 30fps and a title that could really benefit from a remaster or even a basic patch. Yet despite all the calls from its audience, there hasn’t been a peep from the developers or Sony about this.

Former PlayStation Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida, who served as president of Worldwide Studios between 2008 and 2019 and left Sony last month after 31 years with the company, tells Kinda Funny that his theory ties to the game’s director Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Specifically he says Miyazaki likely doesn’t want anyone else to handle development of a remaster/remake/port, but is too busy himself with other projects to do it:

“Bloodborne has always been the most asked-for thing, and people wonder why we haven’t really done anything, not even an update, or remake, or remaster which should be easy – we’re known for doing so many remasters. Some people get frustrated. I only have my personal theory for that situation. I left first-party [development], so I don’t know what’s going on.

But my theory is, because I remember [Hidetaka] Miyazaki really loved Bloodborne and what he created. I think he is interested [in bringing back Bloodborne], but he is so successful, and so busy. So he can’t do it himself, but he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it. So that’s my theory, and the PlayStation team respect his wish. That’s my guess and theory… I’m not revealing any secret information.”

Hidetaka Miyazaki has served as game director on every major FromSoftware title for the past twenty years with the sole exception of “Dark Souls II”. He also serves as FromSoftware’s president.

The game itself unfolds in the decaying Gothic, Victorian-era-inspired city of Yharnam. The Yharnamites residents are afflicted with a disease that transforms them into horrific beasts. Attempting to find the source of the plague, Hunter must unravel the city’s mysteries while fighting beasts and cosmic beings. It sold over two million copies on console and managed a 92/100 on Metacritic.
