SSP Group, a leading operator of food and beverage units in travel locations worldwide, has extended its partnership with NS Stations, the owner of all the railway stations in the Netherlands, to run 12 existing Burger King restaurants across the Dutch rail network.

The multi-year deal significantly grows SSP’s footprint in the Netherlands. Currently, SSP operates over 30 outlets across rail stations and airports, including franchise partnerships with Starbucks and BrewDog.

The 12 outlets will be SSP’s first Burger King restaurants in the Netherlands, extending its global franchise partnership of over 100 Burger King restaurants in 19 countries1.

“Having operated across Dutch railways stations for the past six years, we’re excited to be adding Burger King to our portfolio in the Netherlands so we can continue to deliver world class brands, tasty food and drink, and speedy service wherever our customers need us on the move” said Alice Theunissen, Managing Director of SSP Netherlands. “Working with our long-standing partner, NS Stations, we’re well placed to deliver on our purpose to be the best part of the journey for passengers travelling by rail in the Netherlands.”

Anne-Maartje Ordelman, Director at NS Stations, said: “We at NS Stations value the importance of having a diverse offering for passengers at our stations. This way, they have the freedom to choose something to eat or drink that suits their preferences and the time of day, ensuring that the station becomes a pleasant part of their journey. We are pleased SSP is expanding its activities at our stations and feel they are the right partner to manage what have been popular Burger King restaurants for many years with our passengers.”

SSP will take ownership of the Burger King restaurants later this year and has plans to invest in a fresh look and feel for the restaurants, including at Amsterdam Central and Utrecht Central stations, the two busiest rail stations in the Netherlands. It will work with Burger King to enhance guest experience through a digital-first proposition, such as the implementation of digital ordering kiosks.
