Emmy nominee Natasha Lyonne is reportedly expected to play legendary comedian Joan Rivers in the currently in-development biopic “Can We Talk?” at Sony’s 3000 Pictures.
“The Office” writer Amelie Gillette penned the script for the project which is currently seeking a director.
The story will trace Rivers’ groundbreaking rise through the world of stand-up comedy, famed guest appearances on Johnny Carson’s talk show, hosting her own talk show and dealing with personal losses.
Rivers was famous for her barbs which took no prisoners, especially herself. She was quick, smart, without fear and ran over controversial and sensitive topics like a bulldozer – an approach that drew both admiration and ire.
Lyonne has her own unique comedy stylings with her works like “Poker Face” and “Russian Doll” playing to those strengths. This will be a trickier prospect.
Rivers’ real-life daughter Melissa Rivers is reportedly onboard the film as a producer. No word as to when the project will move forward.
