Paul McCartney, John Lennon & Ringo Starr’s sons come together for new collab w/ Mantra of the Cosmos (listen)
”Rip Off” features Sean Ono Lennon and James McCartney sharing lead vocals with Happy Mondays’ Shaun Rider while Zak Starkey is on drums.

Three sons of The Beatles have come together (sorry) on a new song by Mantra of the Cosmos. One of those sons, Zak Starkey (Ringo’s his dad) is IN Mantra of the Cosmos, the band that also includes Shaun and Bez of Happy Mondays and Andy Bell of Ride and Oasis. The the other two are John Lennon‘s son, Sean Ono Lennon, and Paul McCartney‘s son, James McCartney. The song is titled “Rip Off” and it’s from Mantra of the Cosmos’ debut album, which is still being finished up.
Zak Starkey, who unfortunately has a lot more time on his hands these days, shared a chunk of the song via his Instagram over the weekend. It’s trippy, acoustic and a little more melodically centered than the previous Mantra of the Cosmos singles so far, and features James, Sean and Shaun sharing lead vocals. Listen to the clip below.
Starkey also talked to UK paper The Telegraph recently, saying that not only had he been fired from The Who after nearly 30 years behind the drum kit but he had also turned down the Oasis reunion tour because he had already agreed to dates with Daltrey, Townshend and co. The Telegraph told Starkey that Mantra of the Cosmos should try and get George Harrison’s son, Dhanni, on the song, to which Zak replied, “No I don’t. Why do I?” The interviewer decided to drop it.
With Andy busy in Oasis and Happy Mondays busy this year with their own tour, the Mantra of the Cosmos album won’t likely see release till 2026. Sorry, Zak.
Mantra of the Cosmos just released a new single featuring Noel Gallagher.
