“American Horror Story“ mainstay Sarah Paulson said in October that the odds were favorable for a series return. Over the weekend, series creator Ryan Murphy took it a step further with a new tease for the upcoming 13th season.
Paulson has been a regular part of FX’s anthology horror series since her recurring role as psychic Billie Dean Howard in the first season, Murder House, in 2011. The actor’s last appearance on the show was in Season 10’s Double Feature.
“Sarah Paulson and I are cooking up something cool!” Murphy replied to a fan asking for an AHS update under an Instagram post featuring first-look images from American Love Story.
While this is official confirmation that Paulson is returning for the 13th season, it’s unclear at what capacity. Very little is known about the new season at all, including theme. Considering that Murphy has stated before that he was in talks with Paulson and fellow series mainstay Evan Peters about the new season, it’s safe to assume that we’ll see many familiar faces from the series.
“Production for the 13th season is not yet underway, which has prompted some big questions regarding what many fans have presumed to be American Horror Story’s final season. Concluding with a foreboding 13 seasons seems all-too appropriate for a horror series that’s as campy as American Horror Story,” our own Daniel Kurland speculates on what might be ahead and whether the 13th season will ultimately be the series’ last.
One thing is for certain, though: don’t expect Jessica Lange to appear in the upcoming season. “I haven’t done it for more than 10 years, 12 years, so, no, I’m not doing it,” she previously confirmed.
While we wait for additional news on the 13th season, you can catch up on all 12 current seasons of “American Horror Story” now streaming on Hulu.
