Barca by Madeiguincho is a thoughtfully crafted tiny home on wheels, designed for families seeking comfort within a compact footprint. The house measures just 17.8 feet in length and is built on a double-axle trailer, creating a mobile retreat that doesn’t sacrifice the essentials. The exterior features dark, burnt wood, lending a cabin-like feel that subtly blends in with its surroundings. Slatted wooden shutters over the windows and entrance door offer privacy and thermal control while allowing the inhabitants to open up the home to nature when desired.
The use of wood is continued inside the home, with birch plywood panels, cedar, and pine creating a warm, cohesive atmosphere. Every inch of the interior is used efficiently, making the most of the limited square footage. The open-plan lounge and kitchen area is accessible through double glass doors, creating a space for family gatherings and relaxation. The kitchen is compact yet functional, offering the essentials for daily living while keeping the space uncluttered. Large windows invite daylight inside, giving the home an airy character and a sense of connection to its setting.

The layout is designed with families in mind. Vertical space is used to provide three distinct sleeping areas: two bunks at one end and a lofted bed over the bathroom. Each sleeping nook is accessible via a sturdy wooden ladder, with slatted walls offering a sense of enclosure without closing off the space. Storage is tucked away under the lower bed and in dedicated units, ensuring that everything has its place and that clutter is kept out of sight. This careful planning allows the home to comfortably accommodate four people.
Barca’s bathroom sits next to the kitchen and is clad in the same wood as the rest of the house, creating a cohesive look. It is equipped with a shower, toilet, and vanity, mirroring the kitchen’s cabinetry for a unified design approach. Even though the bathroom is small, it provides all the necessary amenities, and the wood finish gives it a spa-like quality that feels both practical and inviting. The continuity of materials throughout the home brings a sense of calm and unity.
Off-grid living is a key aspect of Barca’s design. Solar panels on the roof provide power, and water is sourced from a nearby well, making the home self-sufficient and suited for extended stays in remote locations. The house is designed for slow living, encouraging its inhabitants to disconnect from the pace of everyday life and spend time together. This ethos is reflected in its minimal, uncluttered interiors and the seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Barca is more than just a compact dwelling. It is an example of how small-scale living can be both beautiful and highly functional. By focusing on efficient use of space, quality materials, and off-grid capability, Madeiguincho has created a tiny home that serves as both a retreat and a practical family residence. The design invites its owners to enjoy a simpler way of life, surrounded by the warmth of wood and the quiet of nature.
