Veteran comedian, talk show host, writer, and recent Oscar host Conan O’Brien has joined the voice cast of the fifth film in the “Toy Story” franchise.

The new movie sees Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs challenged after being introduced to what kids are obsessed with today – electronics. O’Brien will play the role of ‘Smarty Pants’.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton and McKenna Harris co-direct the film which is produced by Jessica Choi.

Disney announced the casting as part of its Licensing Expo presentation on Monday with O’Brien taking to social media to confirm it.

O’Brien jokes he initially wanted the role of Woody or Buzz Lightyear until he learned that Smarty Pants is “the best character of them all”.

The most recent film in the series, “Toy Story 4,” opened in 2019 to over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. “Toy Story 5” is due in cinemas June 19th 2026.
