K Koke here, UK rap artist from North West London. I started recording my new album Winners Never Quit during lockdown. Things were quiet, and I was just in the studio picking beats I felt and laying down ideas. There wasn’t really a big plan, I was just going off instinct. Once the music started coming together, I started thinking about the right features, who would bring the right energy to certain tracks.
Most of the features came naturally from people I already had relationships with, or had been in the studio with before. But the Styles P feature was different. I grew up listening to him, so that one meant a lot. I always wanted to get him on a record. I had a song I knew he’d make sense on, so I passed it through one of my business partners, and he delivered. That was a proper moment for me.
“No Favours” featuring Potter Payper came together in the studio. I had a demo, played it to him, and he was feeling it straight away. We recorded it together, and that ended up becoming one of the key songs on the album.
The name Winners Never Quit didn’t come to me straight away. I wasn’t sure what I was going to call the album for a while. But the more I reflected on my fifteen years in the game, the ups and downs, all the times I could’ve quit but didn’t, it just made sense and I want everyone else to realise this too, we keep going.
This album is about that message. Resilience. Real life. It’s not just about the struggles, it’s about pushing through them. The main theme is: we’re still here, and that means we’re winning. That’s something I think a lot of people need right now. Some good news. Some motivation. A reminder that no matter what’s going on in the world, you can still keep moving forward.
The most personal song for me is “Ain’t Right”, featuring my daughter, Sofia Georgiou. She was only six when we recorded it. Being able to share that moment with her and have her voice on the track, that meant everything. That’s legacy. She’s first introduced on the album during the second track, “Right Foot Forward”, where she says a little line: “Put your right foot forward.” This is her first introduction on the project.
The reaction to the album’s been crazy. I’d had the music sitting with me for a while, so I was just excited to get it out and see how people responded. And what’s been mad is that everyone’s connecting with different songs. You ask ten people their favourite and you get ten different answers, that tells me there’s something for everyone in there.
For me, this project was a statement. I’ve been in and out of the game for the past few years with sporadic release, but this was me saying I’m back. I’m here. And I’m coming for everything.
I’ve got a deluxe version of the album dropping sooner than you think. Four new tracks, one with Emeli Sandé, one with Dappy, one with James Barlow, and a solo tune from me. These are a bit more commercial, but still honest and raw.
We’re also working on a tour, figuring out the timings and logistics, and I’ve got some limited edition cassette keyrings dropping for the day-one fans who’ve been riding with me from the beginning. This project ain’t just music, it’s a message. For me, for anyone listening. No matter what life throws at you, just remember: Winners Never Quit.
