Surprise Hit PS4, PS5 Soulslike Game Getting Difficulty Options

One of the biggest hurdles of any Soulslike game is difficulty. Many players fall off of games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice or Nioh because they are incredibly challenging. However, one of the most popular soulslikes, Lies of P, is adding difficulty options to widen its audience.

Lies of P: Overture, the expansion to the hit Neowiz game, will introduce difficulty options at launch. Specifically, it will add three difficulty levels: Butterfly’s Guidance, Awakened Puppet, and Legendary Stalker. The last of that bunch will be the game’s default difficulty, while the first two act as easier options. These will be added in a patch released alongside the expansion.

As reported by Video Games Chronicle, there are a couple of reasons why the developer decided to add easier difficulty options to Lies of P. Probably the most important of these reasons is that it was implemented due to community feedback. The studio also wanted to further widen its audience by offering an experience that any player can enjoy.

“We wanted to make sure a wider audience of players could play the game,” said game director Jiwon Choi.

“So by making development adjustments and introducing these difficulty options, we can offer the experience to different types of players. This broadens the base,” Choi continued.

Neowiz has confirmed that a sequel to Lies of P is also in the works. However, the anticipated expansion titled Lies of P: Overture is a prequel to the base game. The first gameplay trailer was revealed during the February State of Play.

“Lies of P: Overture is a dramatic prequel to the acclaimed soulslike action RPG, Lies of P,” reads the description. “It transports you to the city of Krat in its final days of haunting, late-19th-century Belle Époque beauty. On the brink of the Puppet Frenzy massacre, you follow a legendary Stalker—a mysterious guide—through untold stories and chilling secrets. As Geppetto’s deadly puppet, you’ll journey through Krat and its surroundings, uncover hidden backstories, and face epic battles that shape the past and future of Lies of P.”
