UK. Five Guys and London Heathrow Airport have revealed that the well-known American burger chain will open a restaurant in Terminal 5 later this year. It will be the brand’s first venue in a European airport.

The 2,500sq ft dining spot will occupy a prime location on the upper level of T5, with plans to accommodate 90 covers, alongside a speedy takeaway option. The venture is expected to create between 80 and 100 jobs in the terminal.

Five Guys – which has more than 1,800 restaurants worldwide, including over 170 in the UK – will offer daytime and breakfast menu choices.

Using fresh ingredients for its burgers, Five Guys will offer 15 toppings to choose from, giving customers over 250,000 possible burger and hot dog order combinations. The options will include Five Guys’ famed cheeseburger, an all-beef hot dog and even a bun-less lettuce wrapped burger.

Boardwalk-style salted or cajun fries come as standard with each order, served with an extra scoop in the bag.

The restaurant will feature exclusive elements tailored for Heathrow, including a dedicated Welcome Host to greet passengers.

The design will include provision for multiple ordering kiosks, which will use six different language options and other travel-friendly elements.

Five Guys UK CEO John Eckbert said, “We are thrilled to be opening a brand new Five Guys at Heathrow Terminal 5 this year. Having opened over 170 restaurants across the UK since we first launched back in 2013, the brand has established itself as one of the nation’s favourites for premium burgers.

“Now Five Guys is cementing itself at the UK’s busiest travel hub; we are excited to be providing our delicious menu to travellers as part of their journeys.”

The airport company said it will work closely with Five Guys to align on Heathrow’s retail strategy, which is to consider Digital, Experience, Space and Offer (DESO) within the proposition.

Heathrow Retail Director Fraser Brown commented, “We’re very excited to welcome Five Guys to Terminal 5 – becoming the first airport in the UK and Europe to host the beloved burger brand. This exciting addition reflects our commitment to making every journey better, as we continue to build an extraordinary airport fit for the future.

“We’re confident this new arrival will be a hit with our passengers.”

Founded in Virginia in 1986, Five Guys has built its reputation on generous portions, with Founder Jerry Murrell saying: “If people aren’t complaining that there’s too many fries, there aren’t enough!”

The chain launched in the UK in 2013 in London’s Covent Garden.  ‍
