This week, The New York Times is running a list of the 100 best films of the 21st century, each day unveiling more of the list right up until #1 by the end of the week.
As part of this, multiple actors and directors were asked to submit their own Top Ten 21st Century Films list, and some of the results of those submissions have now been posted with interesting choices all around.
There are a couple of interesting inclusions here – Luca Guadagnino voting for “Ghosts of Mars,” Patton Oswalt voting for “The Nice Guys,” and Josh Safdie for “Behind the Candelabra” – and there are plenty of recurring titles as well.
Plenty of titles however come up repeatedly – “The Act of Killing,” “Aftersun,” “Another Round,” “Beau Travail,” “Birdman,” “Borat,” “Boyhood,” “Bridesmaids,” “Brokeback Mountain,” “Call Me By Your Name,” “Children of Men,” “City of God,” “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon,” “The Dark Knight,” “The Departed,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “Ex Machina,” “Fish Tank,” “Get Out,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Gravity,” and “Grizzly Man”.
Also coming up repeatedly are “Hero,” “The Incredibles,” “In the Mood for Love,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “Inside Out,” “Interstellar,” “Krisha,” “The Lives of Others,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Memories of Murder,” “Moneyball,” “Moonlight,” “Mulholland Drive,” “No Country for Old Men,” “Oldboy,” “Oppenheimer,” “Parasite,” “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” and “Punch Drunk Love”.
Finally the likes of “Rachel Getting Married,” “Requiem for a Dream,” “The Social Network,” “Spirited Away,” “Spotlight,” “Talk to Her,” “Team America: World Police,” “There Will Be Blood,” “Under the Skin,” “Wall-E,” “The Worst Person in the World,” “Zodiac” and “The Zone of Interest” al feature on many lists.
