Jon Bernthal Joins Tom Holland In Spider-Man: Brand New Day

It was rumored, but now it’s locked, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher will appear alongside star Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. I’ll apologise this one is a couple days late. The curse of living in the U.K. and flowing the US news cycle. Normally for a big story like this I’d cover it on the Saturday, but I was too busy this weekend.

So, late Friday it began being reported by all the trades that Jon Bernthal has been cast in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, reprising his role as the Punisher. If you have been following the rumors around casting for this film, then you know this is not a surprise. Bernthal possibly being in the film was first reported back in December by Jeff Sneider. Later in January/Feb John Rocha reported that he heard Hulk and Punisher would both appear. Then there were supposed leaks that Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) concept art had been seen.

Here is what was reported by THR,

‘Bernthal has joined Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest Spider-Man movie from Sony and Marvel. Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the feature, which will shoot in England this summer and has a July 31, 2026, release date.’

The only other cast members confirmed prior to this were Sadie Sink in an unknown role and Zendaya returning as MJ. However, here is what THR said, indicated Jacob Battalon is returning as Ned also.

‘The only thing clear at this stage is that Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are reprising their roles as MJ and best friend Ned, although how substantial those roles will be remains unclear. And Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is the big new addition so far. The story takes place after the events of the previous movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which the entire world knew Peter Parker was Spider-Man and then had that knowledge erased.’

With filming set to begin soon in England, chances are we will see more of the cast revealed soon. The villain rumors are many and contradictory, so it would be good see someone cast. If we don’t get word, we are going to be seeing actors turn up in London/Scotland etc. Therefore, we’ll have a better idea soon enough.
