Hermitage Bay, an SLH Hotel Bottom Line Review (Guest Review)

There’s been a lot of buzz about the Hermitage Bay Resort (now an SLH property bookable with Hilton points), so we took to our Frequent Miler Insiders group for some reader input about the property. Thanks to reader Son T Nguyen who provided some photos and helpful feedback, serving as our source for this bottom line review. Thanks also goes to an anonymous contributor who sent us photos to use for this post.

Hermitage Bay is an all-inclusive all-suites resort in Antigua, in the Caribbean. Room rates typically exceed $2,000 per night, and reviews tend to be glowing. This has made Hermitage Bay one of the most sought after properties for Hilton award bookings. At the time of this posting, the cost to book a standard room at Hermitage Bay with Hilton points has increased to 190,000 points per night. Fortunately, Hilton Free Night Certificates still work when standard rooms are available.

While this is a little different than usual, we provided our typical Bottom Line Review bullet points as prompts and we’ll quote the feedback Son provided for each prompt. We won’t be able to answer specific questions about the property since this review is not from our own team, but please feel free to comment on this post with feedback from your own stays at this popular property, and feel free to ask questions for other readers to answer. Hermitage Bay, an SLH Hotel Bottom Line Review

Son started his review by saying the stay was “truly an unforgettable experience”, then went on to say:

Overall, Hermitage Bay Resort offers an unparalleled experience of luxury, relaxation, and natural beauty. It is perfect for couples, honeymooners, or anyone looking to disconnect and indulge in an exceptional tropical retreat. I can’t wait to return!

Let’s look at what Son had to say for each of our Bottom Line Review bullet points.

  • Price:
The price for our stay was on the higher end, as this is a luxury all-inclusive resort. We stayed 3 nights, we used 2 Free Night Certificates and 130k pts for the third night.
  • Value:
The value was absolutely worth it. The attention to detail, level of privacy, amenities, and exceptional service provided exceeded our expectations. The price reflected a seamless, relaxing, and luxurious escape.
  • Location:
Hermitage Bay’s location was breathtaking—a secluded cove with gorgeous beach access and a real sense of tranquility…there [are] 5-6 beach front villas (no pool), 4-7 garden view villas all with pools, then the rest are hillsides I believe.
  • Room:
We booked a garden pool villa suite with ocean views of the turquoise waters….We didn’t receive a complimentary upgrade. However, this is [an] all suites resort, every room looks equally beautiful……The room was absolutely stunning—modern, clean, and beautifully designed with natural elements that fit in perfectly with the tropical surroundings. The spacious layout and luxurious touches made it feel like our private paradise…

…The level of privacy was outstanding. The villa was secluded, with lush vegetation offering natural seclusion, so we felt as though we had our own personal escape…

Author’s note: From others’ accounts, we learned that some of the beach side units don’t have a privacy door between the bathroom and bedroom. One person told us that when they mentioned it to the resort, the resort immediately brought a privacy screen to their room.

  • Parking: Author’s note: the hotel website states there is no valet parking, EV charging, or covered/secured parking, but self-parking is available and free.
  • Service:
The service was impeccable—attentive, friendly, and genuinely helpful without ever being intrusive.
  • Turndown service:
We did receive daily turndown service, which added to the feeling of being cared for and pampered.
  • Dining:
The dining options were excellent. The food was fresh, flavorful, and showcased local ingredients. Every meal felt special, from the a la carte dining options to casual beachfront fare. Options were varied, and the wine pairings were exceptional.
  • Spa:
The price of spa messaging starting at $550 is kind of expensive.
  • Fitness Room:
There was a small but well-equipped fitness center on site. While it wasn’t overly large, it had everything you’d need for a quick morning workout to balance out the incredible food and relaxation.
  • Hilton Diamond Benefits:
Author’s note: Son stated that he did not receive a complementary upgrade.
  • Would you stay again?:

Absolutely. This was one of the most seamless, luxurious, and relaxing vacations we’ve had. From the privacy to the exceptional service and amenities, every moment felt like a dream.

Pros

  • The secluded, intimate vibe
  • Impeccable service
  • Stunning accommodations
  • Outstanding dining
  • Luxurious amenities
  • They provide flip flops if you forget to bring ones

Cons

  • Mosquitos were bad even in the afternoon when we sat by the pool.
  • We brought our own sunscreen. [Otherwise] $60-70 yikes
  • The price of spa messaging starting at $550 is kind of expensive.
  • The drive to and [from] the resort is very bumpy especially [in] the last 10 minutes.
  • Some of the light fixtures’ lightbulbs went out. Our light in the outdoor shower didn’t turn on so we could not take [a] shower at night on the day of arrival.

Suites

Hermitage Bay offers three different types of rooms: Beachfront Villa Suites, Garden Pool Villa Suites, and Hillside Pool Villa Suites. All suites except the Beachfront suites include private plunge pools. It appears that only Beachfront Villa Suites are currently available to book as standard room awards, but some readers have mentioned being moved into other room types upon request so it may be worth a try if a private plunge pool is important to you.
