Two upcoming PS5 first-party games seem to be in serious turmoil ahead of release. A fresh report by journalist and podcaster Colin Moriarty cast more doubt over the state of Marathon and Fairgames, with the former possibly facing a delay after recent events.

According to Moriarty, after Bungie admitted that Marathon’s art had been stolen and blamed a former employee for it, Sony dropped plans for paid marketing for the game.

“I was told by someone familiar with marketing plans in a key overseas market that there are now no plans to do paid marketing for Marathon at all,” Moriarty said. “I don’t know if those plans were affected by what has recently happened or if that was always the plan or whatever, but it is considered a fairly unusual move for a game of this high profile.”

Previously, a report by Forbes had already suggested that things weren’t going too well for both Bungie and its Marathon project, which doesn’t bode well for a game that’s scheduled to release in just four months.

Separately, Moriarty said in response to Bloomberg’s report about Fairgames that following the title’s external testing, it emerged that the game just “doesn’t feel good to play” and is “super clunky.”

Sony recently confirmed that Haven Studios founder Jade Raymond had departed the company, but it’s unclear if she was ousted or resigned.

Two years ago in May 2023, PlayStation held a showcase where it highlighted Fairgames, Marathon, and Concord. That event certainly aged like milk.
