Summer Box-Office Targeting $4.2 Billion Haul

The Memorial Day weekend holiday box-office is coming in at $327 million, a record for the holiday and up 221% on last year’s dismal takings when both “Furiosa” and “Garfield” debuted to soft numbers.

It is just the latest good news for exhibitors who, after a tough first quarter, have seen a massive jump in their fortunes over the past two months. The result is the 2025 domestic box office stands at $3.3 billion for this year as of May 26th – up 22% over the same period a year ago and on par with 2023.

In the wake of this, Comscore is reporting that we’re likely in store for a $4.2 billion haul for this summer at the domestic box office, those projections surpassing 2023’s $4.09 billion and 2024’s $3.67 billion take. Their film ‘Summer’ is measured from the first weekend in May through Labor Day.

The box-office certainly has no shortage of product coming with “Karate Kid: Legends” and “The Phoenician Scheme” this coming week, “From the World of John Wick: Ballerina” and “The Life of Chuck” on June 6th, “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Materialists” on June 13th, “28 Years Later” and “Elio” on June 20th, “F1” and “M3GAN 2.0” on June 27th.

There’a also “Jurassic World Rebirth” and “Heads of State” on July 2nd, “Superman” on July 11th, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and “Smurfs” on July 18th, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” on July 25th, “The Bad Guys 2” and “The Naked Gun” on August 1st, “Freakier Friday” and “Weapons” on August 8th, “Nobody 2” on August 15th, “Highest 2 Lowest” and “Honey Don’t” on August 22nd, and “Caught Stealing” and “The Roses” on August 29th.
