Mel Brooks Announces 'Spaceballs 2' Officially On the Way in 2027!

"May the Schwartz be with you!" Huzzah! Amazon MGM Studios has just posted an announcement video confirming that Spaceballs 2 is definitely happening. And they're aiming for release in 2027. The video features the OG comedy mastermind Mel Brooks (who is now 98 years old!!) talking about the return of Spaceballs... 38 years later. Though by the time it's actually released, it will be a full 40 years. The movie opened in 1987, a big time Hollywood spoof riffing on Star Wars, featuring Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, John Candy as Barf, Daphne Zuniga as Princess Vespa, Joan Rivers as the voice of Dot Matrix, plus Rick Moranis as Lord Dark Helmet. It's one of my all-time favorite comedies! This funny announcement teaser features a hilarious Star Wars opening scroll riffing on all the sequels & franchises made in the 38 years since the first film, which still contains some of the funniest comedy riffs on sequels & franchises. Mel Brooks will be back and the sequel is being written by Josh Gad (who will also star) & directed by Josh Greenbaum. I'm hoping this will be a worthwhile follow-up!
