“New Jedi Order” Film On Hold Again?

Documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s untitled “Star Wars” film, dubbed “New Jedi Order” in some circles, is apparently on hold again.

Early this year came the news that George Nolfi was tackling the script. Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson penned the original script, and then left over creative differences.

Then “Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight took a shot, trying to crack it for well over a year with multiple drafts submitted. By September last year, the project was put on hold, and Knight exited.

Then Nolfi came onboard in January and things seemed back on, but it wasn’t clear how much work Nolfi had to do with the script. Now, scooper Daniel Richtman (via SFFG) says today:

“The Rey movie is on hold once again, as both the Shawn Levy and James Mangold Star Wars films are moving forward first. The project is not canceled — just temporarily on hold.”

Daisy Ridley’s Rey, now going by the name Rey Skywalker, will be key to the future of the franchise with the character expected to appear in the new trilogy that Simon Kinberg is developing.

That project may end up having an impact on this film which is said to be set around 15 years after the ‘Rise of Skywalker’ with Rey training the next generation of Jedi.
