A reboot of iconic family drama series “7th Heaven” is currently in early development at CBS Studios.
Jessica Biel, who starred in the original series which launched her career, is executive producing while Anthony Sparks (“Queen Suga,” “Bel-Air,” “The Blacklist”) will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
The original series debuted on The WB in 1996 and ran for 11 seasons and nearly 250 episodes. It followed the Camden family – Protestant minister Eric (Stephen Collins) and wife Annie (Catherine Hicks) along with their seven children: Matt, Mary, Lucy, Simon, Ruthie, Sam, and David.
Barry Watson, David Gallagher, Beverley Mitchell, Mackenzie Rosman, Nikolas Brino, and Lorenzo Brino co-starred. The show has remained popular ever since, but also with some controversy over Collins.
The new series will reportedly focus on a diverse family, and none of the original cast members are planned to appear.
That said, the project is still in the very early stages and deals are still being worked out. No network or streaming service is presently attached.
Michelle Purple and DeVon Franklin (“Miracles from Heaven”) also executive produce.
Biel most recently starred in Hulu limited series “Candy” and will be seen in Prime Video series “The Better Sister”.
