Air France—KLM’s frequent flier program, Flying Blue, has launched its first standalone app that doesn’t allow users to do anything travel-related.

The app appears to be mainly pushing several shopping services that allow you to earn miles, at an awful ratio, if you click through the app.

You can access Flying Blue here.

Flying Blue’s Press Release:

Flying Blue Launches Flying Blue+, a Mobile App Allowing Members to Earn Miles Through Everyday Purchases

Flying Blue, the loyalty program of the Air France-KLM group, unveils Flying Blue+, an app that allows its members to earn Miles through their everyday purchases, beyond flight bookings. This initiative reflects Flying Blue’s aim to be a part of its members’ daily lives – not just when they travel – by adding new opportunities to earn and use Miles.

Available starting today for members residing in the United States and the United Kingdom, Flying Blue+ can be downloaded via the App Store (iOS) and the Play Store (Android).

An Enhanced Loyalty Program with Offers and Experiences

With Flying Blue+, earning Miles has never been easier. By linking their payment card and using the shopping and booking links integrated within the app, Flying Blue members can earn Miles with a vast network of partners by:

  • Booking stays, car rentals, activities, or restaurants* directly through the app,
  • Making online or in-store purchases at partner retailers,
  • Taking advantage of offers and promotions highlighted in the app.

Each partner sets its own offers and the corresponding Miles earning rates. Once bookings or purchases are completed, Miles are automatically credited to the member’s Flying Blue account.

A dedicated “Spend My Miles” tab provides direct access to affiliated airlines websites, allowing members to book reward tickets*, upgrades, or purchase additional travel options.

A Convenient and Personalized App

Designed to integrate seamlessly into member’s daily lives, the Flying Blue+ app offers a personalized experience based on users’ location, preferences, and shopping habits*. A wide range of offers is available across categories such as travel, culture & leisure, fashion, beauty & wellness, food, banking & insurance, etc. – with major partners like Burberry, Macy’s, Hertz.

In addition to these offers, the Flying Blue+ app also features:

  • Quick access the user’s Flying Blue membership card, Miles and XP balance, and transaction history,
  • Integrated support to assist members and answer their questions about using the app.

Flying Blue plans to roll out Flying Blue+ to additional markets in the future.

Conclusion

I played around with the app, and once I got signed in after a few tries, I found zero offers worth my time.

The app won’t show any of your Air France or KLM ticketed itineraries, but it can show your current miles and XP totals, not even the possible lifetime years.

Flying Blue’s purpose with this app appears to be to get you to make online purchases using it by offering an awfully low return per USD in the form of miles.

They know how awful these amounts are, so they display them by miles per USD instead of miles per 10 USD to make it look something.

Some merchants allow you to earn miles based on the card you have linked with Flying Blue, which may allow you to double-dip when it comes to earning miles and other possible offers.
