Five Directors Pitch For Next James Bond Film

Five filmmakers are reportedly pitching to direct the next James Bond film, some previously rumored and some brand new, and all of them very familiar names to not just the industry but many cinephiles.

Puck News revealed the shortlist of helmers who have either had or will shortly have get-togethers with producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal to discuss and pitch their takes for the first Bond film of the new era under Amazon’s purview.

The list includes “Conclave” and “All Quiet on the Western Front” director Edward Berger along with “Dune,” “Sicario,” “Arrival,” “Prisoners” and “Blade Runner 2049” director Denis Villeneuve. The Swiss-Austrian and Canadian helmers were both linked as potential candidates back when the project was still under the control of producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

Newly mentioned on the list are two beloved Brits – “Hot Fuzz,” “Shaun of the Dead” and “Baby Driver” director Edgar Wright along with “Paddington,” “Paddington 2” and “Wonka” director Paul King. King may have a slight advantage here as he’s worked with producer Heyman on the “Paddington” and “Wonka” films.

Last on the list is Nolan – no, not Christopher Nolan but rather his brother Jonathan Nolan. The most unexpected inclusion here, Nolan nonetheless has strong filmmaking credentials as writer on “The Prestige,” “The Dark Knight” and “Interstellar” along with creator/writer/producer and occasional director of “Westworld” and “Person of Interest” along with executive producing and directing several episodes of “Fallout”.

All five are busy individuals with new projects in the works or being lined up right now, so it’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top. Alfonso Cuaron, who had previously been rumored, appeared to be out of the running at last report last month.
