Dave Bautista has reportedly joined the cast of Guy Ritchie’s sequel to last year’s Doug Liman-directed remake of “Road House” at Amazon MGM Studios.
Jake Gyllenhaal is back as ex-UFC fighter Dalton and Will Beall (“Aquaman,” “Bad Boys: Ride or Die”) is writing the script. Ritchie replaces Liman who fell out with Amazon over its lack of a theatrical release.
The first film, a reimagining of the 1987 Patrick Swayze-led cult classic, follows a former UFC fighter named Dalton who takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys but soon discovers that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise.
Bautista is set to take on the role of a former fighter, a character said to be fairly similar to Dalton. No further details of other cast members or the new film’s story have been revealed.
The remake became Amazon’s most-watched film debut ever on a worldwide basis with nearly 100 million worldwide viewers tuning in to see it. Ritchie’s recent works have included Apple TV+ series “Fountain of Youth” and the Tom Hardy-led crime series “MobLand”.
Will Beall is penning the sequel which is aiming to shoot as early as September.
