More New Superman Theme Music From Event – You Just Can’t Beat Williams Theme

Some more of the new Superman theme was played at a recent event and you know what, you just can’t do better than Williams theme. I mean that both good and bad for the new film, but I’ll get there.

I do like this theme better than the one we had for Man of Steel, and I did actually like that, to my surprise. The truth is though, you just can’t, in my mind, improve upon the original by legend John Williams. 

Yes, its there in the new theme and that’s what I love about it. However, at the same time, every time I hear the new theme, it leaves me wanting, Specifically it leave me wanting it to transition into the classic Williams them with the faster tempo. Bobbeda bob… bobe, bobede bobede bob……. I know, I’m like Mozart reborn.

So yeah, I love that they’ve brought Williams theme back, it just IS Superman’s theme and it transcends being dated. However, I kinda hope that in the movie they really let go a little and it’s not always just this slower electric guitar version.

Here’s what Gunn had to say about them theme when it was first revealed way back.

“I knew from the beginning what I wanted to do with the music. I thought about it a lot, ‘Are we going to do something completely different? Are we going to use the [John] Williams’ theme?’ That soundtrack is one of my favorite soundtracks of all time, and when I was a kid, really… the thing I loved the most about the movie was the music. That was the thing I took home with me more than anything else.”

“But I knew we were doing something that was harkening back to the past but also looking forward to the future, and so it was about finding that balance. John Murphy is a composer who I love working with, and he started working on the music before the script was even finished… I said, ‘I want to use a version of the Williams’ theme, but I want to do our own version of it.’ So, that’s what you hear.”

I hear you James and I’m a fan. However, not as much of a fan as I am the OG, the one you fell in love with yourself. In fact, I’ll go farther. It’s probably the best theme tune for a character in all the history of film and TV. As a Star Wars fan (OT) that’s heady praise, because Empire is my favourite soundtrack of all time.
