The Boys
Out promoting his new “Countdown” series, actor Jensen Ackles indicates he’s just wrapped his work as Soldier Boy in the fifth and final season of “The Boys” which has been in production since November.

Ackles tells CBR he finished his work on the series shoot back on Tuesday last week, though added “they might have to bring me back for some other stuff”. Filming is likely to end soon ahead of a mid-2026 release.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
A brief post on TV Line confirms that even though the first season is unlikely to arrive on screens until early 2026, filming on a second season of Alex Kurtzman’s “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” series will begin later this year. It’s expected a first look at the show and a potential release window will be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con next month.

Wednesday
Netflix has released a new video for the upcoming second season of its supernatural drama series “Wednesday,” the clip serving as a kind of sales pitch for the Nevermore Academy with Steve Buscemi’s new Principal Barry Dorf character front-and-center.

The character says he intends to the right his predecessor’s wrongs by returning the school to its former glory. Characters like Wednesday, Enid, Bianca, and Pugsley all pop up at different points in the promo. The new season will be divided into two parts, with the first on August 6th and the second on September 3rd.

Blossoms Shanghai
Criterion has picked up Wong Kar Wai’s 30-episode television epic “Blossoms Shanghai” for the United States and will stream it on the Criterion Channel later this year. It marks the U.S. debut of the auteur’s first-ever series.

Adapted from Jin Yucheng’s award-winning 2013 novel, it follows the rise of the Jay Gatsby-esque Ah Bao as he navigates Shanghai’s roaring 1990s economic boom. The series, which clocks in at nearly 25 hours, aired in China in late 2023.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
FX has released a new trailer for next month’s seventeenth season of the comedy series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. The clip puts the focus on Danny DeVito’s Frank Reynolds going on “The Golden Bachelor” and falling for a parody of the Hawk Tuah girl. The new run will premiere on July 9th on FXX and hit Hulu the next day.
