Blumhouse Closes Deal On “Saw” Franchise

After long negotiations, Blumhouse Productions has finalised a deal that will see it acquire part of the “Saw” horror franchise from Twisted Pictures.

Lionsgate, which also has an ownership stake, will continue to distribute the films which it has always done since 2004.

Content Partners, parent of Revolution Studios, has alsp bought an unspecified stake in Twisted’s existing library alongside producer Mark Burg’s retained share.

With this deal, the franchise returns in part to original “Saw” director James Wan whose Atomic Monster label merged with Blumhouse in 2024. Wan and Leigh Whannell co-wrote and Wan directed the film.

In a statement, Blumhouse chief Jason Blum indicates both Wan and Whannell, who haven’t been involved in the franchise since the third film, will be back in some capacity.

Wan adds: “For me, this will mark a significant creative return to the Saw franchise for the first time since the early days, and I’m very much looking forward to embracing the original spirit whilst pushing the legacy forward in bold, unexpected ways.”
