Gary Oldman Has Been Knighted

That’s Sir Gary Oldman to you.

“Harry Potter,” “The Dark Knight” and “Slow Horses” star Gary Oldman have been knighted in this year’s king’s birthday honours list.

Oldman, The Who frontman Roger Daltrey, and football icon David Beckham are among those who made the list this year with sculptor Sir Antony Gormley landing the top Companion of Honour title.

Author Pat Barker, former Defence Secretary Penny Mordaunt, and ceramicist Emma Bridgewater are being made dames. Oldman, now 67, is being recognised for services to drama.

Barker, 82, said the bedrock of the awards were those who devoted long hours for free to what they believed in for the benefit of others, “and knights and dames are just cherries on the top of that cake. I am happy to be a cherry.”

OBEs are being handed out this year to Bafta award-winning actress Samantha Morton and former “EastEnders” actress Anita Dobson.
