Strange Nature Gin triumphs at IWSC 2025 as New Zealand’s highest-rated gin
This marks the second consecutive year that Strange Nature Gin has been recognised as New Zealand’s highest-rated gin, adding to its 2024 accolade as the Best Contemporary Gin in the World.

NEW ZEALAND. Strange Nature gin, the quirky super-premium gin from New Zealand which sponsors The Moodie Davitt Report’s popular Strange Predictions competition series, has earned a remarkable 95/100 – Gold at the 2025 International Wines & Spirits Competition (IWSC).
This marks the second consecutive year that Strange Nature Gin has been recognised as New Zealand’s highest-rated gin, adding to its 2024 accolade as the Best Contemporary Gin in the World.
One of the most distinguished and long-standing competitions globally, IWSC featured entries from across four continents, with standout spirits in categories including whisk(e)y, gin, brandy, agave-based spirits, vodka and liqueurs, as well as aperitifs and digestifs.
In their tasting notes, the IWSC Gin Panel described Strange Nature Gin as follows: “The aroma bursts forth with an attractive peppery kick, intertwined with zesty lime and ripe grape. Flavours of sweet fruit and eucalyptus create a beautifully balanced complexity, while a delightful medley of herbal and floral notes linger gracefully with each sip.”
Strange Nature Gin has made notable strides beyond its recent award, including the travel retail-exclusive launch of its Pinot Noir Gin earlier this year, priced at US$90 RRP and now available at Sydney and Singapore Changi airports.
The brand has also expanded significantly in the US, doubling its distribution and reaching nine states, including New York, California, Texas, Colorado, Florida, Washington, Maryland, Connecticut and Delaware.
In Japan, leading cocktail bars in Osaka and Tokyo have added the gin to their menus, with its citrus-led character gaining popularity among consumers.
Back home in New Zealand, Strange Nature Gin is preparing to launch its Strangeology masterclass series, to be followed by regional and national cocktail competitions.
