“Superman” Trailer Views Come In Solid

James Gunn’s “Superman” trailer launched on Wednesday, and so far the reception appears to have been better to it than the original teaser. The trailer was also a top trending topic of disucssion on social media a full 24 hours after release.

That original teaser back in December pulled in over 250 million views and a million social posts across all platform, making it the most viewed and the most talked about trailer in the history of both DC and Warner Bros. Pictures.

Warners hasn’t issued any statement about the new trailers numbers as yet. What is known is the trailer is now at 21.5 million views and 473,000 likes on the DC YouTube channel after three days. On the same channel, the teaser racked up 23.9 million views and 1 million likes by its second day.

Trailers rarely outperform teasers so it’s not unexpected. By comparison, Marvel’s mid-April full trailer from “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” has taken a full month to hit 19 million views and 473,000 likes via Marvel’s official YouTube channel.

Gunn has also taken to Threads to clear up some confusion from the trailer. When Nic Hoult’s Lex Luthor appears, you hear Lois mentioning the U.S. President. When Frank Grillo’s Rick Flagg Sr. appears, you hear Lois mention the Secretary of Defense.

The timing of the cuts have made people thing Lex and Rick are in those respective positions in film, Gunn has confirmed they are not. In regards to Flagg: “He’s the head of ARGUS. But he works beside the Secretary of Defense General Mori.” As for Luthor: “Lex is not President”.

“Superman” is slated to open in cinemas on July 11th. A report by Jeff Sneider at The Hot Mic suggests the film could be on track for an opening weekend of $175 million domestically, beating the $166 million debut of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”.
