German fashion brand Armedangels has teamed up with the Wikimedia Foundation to launch a clothing collection in the lead-up to Wikipedia's 25th birthday.
The partnership between the Cologne-based apparel brand and the non-profit organisation that operates Wikipedia recognises the impact of the world's largest freely accessible online encyclopaedia as it approaches its anniversary on 15 January 2026.
The capsule collection includes hoodies, T-shirts, caps and socks featuring familiar elements from Wikipedia's graphic identity, including the puzzle globe, typography and search bars, with several pieces rendered in "hyperlink blue".
Each item in the collection displays a message highlighting the importance of open and independent knowledge for promoting equality, freedom and sustainability.
Armedangels also incorporated QR codes within the designs that lead customers to open-sourced information on topics that can deepen – or disrupt – their understanding of climate issues and sustainable fashion.
Some of the pieces feature the project's tagline, "For Facts' Sake", while others are printed or embroidered with playful messages such as "Yes, I know" or "Eternal Source of Information".
Armedangels' founder Martin Höfeler and creative director Christiane Bördner worked with the Wikimedia Foundation to develop designs that reflect the organisation's identity and agenda.
"We didn't want to just put Wikipedia's logo on our streetwear," Höfeler told Dezeen.
"We wanted to make the invisible infrastructure of knowledge visible, and do this by translating our shared values around information freedom, open access, community and the power of facts into a visual language."
Armedangels as a brand is focused on minimising its environmental impact and openly shares details of where its fabrics are sourced.
This also involves publishing lifecycle analyses of its products along with a detailed decarbonisation roadmap.
"At Armedangels, we've always challenged conventional systems and promoted transparency, and Wikipedia is the global symbol of those same values in action," Höfeler said.
"The initial spark came from a mutual interest in using our platforms to amplify that message," he added. "Just as we ask people to question how their clothes are made, we also want them to think about where their information comes from."
This particular collection is produced using yarns sourced from Säntis Textiles, a company that claims to have created textile-grade recycled cotton without using any water or chemicals.
A portion of the proceeds from the collection will be used to support Wikipedia, which is compiled by a global community of volunteers.
This project is the second time the Wikimedia Foundation has teamed up with a fashion brand, following a collaboration with Advisory Board Crystals in 2018.
Other unexpected streetwear collaborations include a collection from Finnish tool manufacturer Fiskars and Virgil Abloh's designs for the Musée du Louvre.
