28 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

CLIPSE – “SO BE IT”

Pusha T and No Malice’s first Clipse album in over 15 years (entirely produced by Pharrell) is approaching, and here’s second single “So Be It.”

WINTER – “MISERY” FT. HORSE JUMPER OF LOVE

Winter’s new album Adult Romantix is out in August, and she’s given us another preview with “Misery,” which features Dimitri Giannopoulos of Horse Jumper of Love. ““This song was written with my friend Alex Craig,” Samira Winter says. “At first, we imagined a fictional story about being in love with someone who was unavailable, leaning into the romanticization of indulging in a kind of sadness. However, during the recording process, the story of Elliott Smith’s love and tragic death came up, which in turn inspired the song title and the rest of the lyrics written by Dimitri. The song was originally written at a faster tempo, but we discovered that slowing it down on the tape machine created an interesting androgynous effect on my voice.”

SCALP – “CONSPIRACY”

West Coast grinders Scalp have announced a new LP, Not Worthy of Human Compassion, due July 25 via Closed Casket Activities. Here’s the caustic lead single “Conspiracy.”

THE HIVES – “PAINT A PICTURE”

The Hives’ new single is a song that’s been in their live rotation for nearly a decade and has finally been put to tape. They say it’s “about trying to convince people and yourself that living outside of society is a good idea.” New album The Hives Forever Forever the Hives is out August 29.

ANNA TIVEL – “ANIMAL POEM”

Anna Tivel has announced her seventh album, Animal Poem, due out August 29 via Fluff & Gravy. She says the title track is “a meditation on the stories we tell ourselves and each other. We map our understanding in ever changing narrative, both painful and profound, live inside the worlds we spin.”

THE MARY ONETTES – “HURRICANE HEART” & “EYES OPEN” FT MAJA MILNER

Stockholm post-punk vets The Mary Onettes have come out of hiding, releasing two new songs today with a promise of more to come later in the year. As usual there’s a little Cure here and “Eyes Open” features Makthaverskan’s Maja Milner.

THE DEARS – “BABE, WE’LL FIND A WAY”

“The music came down all at once, strings, guitar – melodies,” says The Dears’ Murray Lightburn of the band’s new single. “It was so strong and vivid. It pines for the breakthrough, we know it’s there! It’s so tangible. When that happens, inner strength takes over. There’s a motivation, a reason to get out of bed. You can feel the sun on your face and maybe a little later a smile will take over.”

CORY HANSON (WAND) – “LOU REED”

Here’s the second single from the Wand frontman’s upcoming solo album and it pays homage to the Velvet Underground frontman: “You were a prince and a fighter / and you were a tai chi master.”

BAXTER DURY – “RETURN OF THE SHARP HEADS”

“Sharp Heads is an abstract subconscious rant,” says Baxter Dury of the second single from his upcoming album which was produced by Paul Epworth. “Criticizing anyone that is from Shoreditch or thereabouts, as I talk from my ivory tower in west London. In that process emerges my own character. It doesn’t always make sense but it makes sense to me.”

MALTHUSIAN – “THE SUMMONING BELL”

Dublin death metal band Malthusian have signed to Relapse and announced a new album, The Summoning Bell, due August 8. Here’s the title track.

FUCK MONEY – “ON THE NOSE”

Austin noise punks Fuck Money will release a self-titled LP on August 15 via Three One G, and here’s the chaotic lead single “On the Nose.”

HELLOWEEN – “THIS IS TOKYO”

FOUR TET – “INTO DUST (STILL FALLING)”

Four Tet has just shared a new single, “Into Dust (Still Falling),” which samples Mazzy Star’s “Into Dust” from 1993’s So Tonight That I Might See (the same album as “Fade Into You”). Keiran makes great use of the spectral original as he works it into his atmospheric style, here powered by a skipping beat.

JUST MUSTARD – “POLLYANNA”

Irish band Just Mustard are back with their first new music in three years. “POLLYANNA” picks up where 2022’s Heart Under left off, with blisteringly loud guitar haze floating atmospherically around a driving bassline and breakbeat drumming.

GUERILLA TOSS – “RED FLAG TO ANGRY BULL” FT STEPHEN MALKMUS & TREY ANASTASIO

If you’ve been following the careers of Stephen Malkmus and Trey Anastasio, a collaboration seemed inevitable, but who would’ve thought it would finally happen on a Guerilla Toss song?

BAR ITALIA – “COWBELLA”

UK trio bar italia are back with their first new single since 2024’s The Tw*ts EP. “Cowbella” is snarling and sultry in a ’90s-style indie kind of way and makes the best of Nina Cristante, Sam Fenton and Jezmi Tarik Fehmi’s unique vocal interplay.
