A volcanic eruption occurred east of Bali on Flores Island late Tuesday, resulting in an ash cloud that has affected flights from Denpasar Airport.
Virgin Australia, Jetstar, and other airlines have cancelled flights until the ash cloud is expected to clear later today. Passengers should monitor their itineraries for possible delays and cancellations.
Jetstar’s Announcement:
Impact of volcanic ash on Bali operations
Last updated: 18/06/2025 07:34am
Due to volcanic ash caused by an eruption of Mount Lewotobi in Indonesia, a number of Jetstar flights between Australia and Bali have been cancelled this morning.
Impacted customers have been notified directly and provided a range of options.
At this stage, forecasts show the ash cloud is expected to clear by later tonight. As a result, this afternoons flights will be delayed to operate later this evening. We are reaching out to customers on these flights to advise them of the delay.
Conclusion
I had a look at the flights from Denpasar Airport for today, and there have been quite a few cancellations, but some flights have departed on time.
There are worse places to get stuck than Bali, and it doesn’t seem that this issue would affect flights for days, like they sometimes do.
