It appears that Avianca now acknowledges that removing business class from all flights except long-haul flights to Europe three years ago, in October 2022, was a mistake.
The airline has previously revised this no business class nonsense on widebody aircraft and some other longer routes, but this change appears to be network-wide, effective from September 15, 2025.
You can access Avianca here.

There are three rows of business class on all these short-haul planes.
Conclusion
Avianca may have found that it is challenging to sell long-haul business if it doesn’t offer any short- and medium-haul flights available in any cabin other than economy.
They made a huge fuss about this change back in 2022, but absolutely zero communication about this complete 180. I guess that they must be embarrassed about this colossal mistake and hope that nobody ever remembers that the business class was removed.
LATAM, Avianca’s main competitor in South America, only offers Premium Economy on these non-widebody aircraft; however, they operate widebody frequencies between their hubs.
I am in South America a few times a year, but have avoided booking Avianca for any of the longer flights due to this “economy only” policy. I’m glad it’s gone in less than three months.
