Finnair ground employees have been striking frequently since May and were on strike yesterday, as well as again tomorrow (June 19, 2025), resulting in hundreds of flight cancellations.

The employees have given notice about the next strike date, which is July 2, 2025, unless parties can reach an agreement before this date. Finnair is still busy dealing with current issues and has not released customer guidance.

You can access Finnair here.

It is currently unclear how many employees in customer service, aircraft maintenance, baggage handling, cargo, ground handling operations, and catering are participating; however, the number has varied between 300 and 600 during previous similar actions.

The number of flights cancelled on strike dates has varied between 50 and 150, and the cancellations are usually announced a day or two before the strike.

Finnair has been pretty good at rebooking affected passengers on other airlines, but the routings are not always optimal (many transfers).

The EC 261/2004 Air Passenger Rights legislation also applies during these strikes. The airlines are required to rebook you to your final destination as soon as possible and provide Duty to Care (accommodation and meals) in case of long delays + don’t forget the required cash compensation.

Passengers whose flight is cancelled or significantly delayed can also opt for a refund, but that is their choice.

Many short-haul flights are also going out with no or very minimal catering around the strike dates, and Finnair has suggested that passengers should bring their own drinks and food on board:

Conclusion

The parties have been negotiating about the new agreement frequently, but there is no new deal in place yet.

Finnair has reached multi-year contracts with its cabin and cockpit employee unions.

If you are planning on flying on Finnair on July 2, 2025, there will likely be significant travel disruptions on that date, UNLESS this strike is called off.
