Chase has finally released more information about the Sapphire Reserve refresh, which will take place on June 23, 2025. However, existing cardmembers can continue to enjoy their current benefits structure until October 26.
The main changes are that the yearly annual fee increases $245 to from $550 to $795, the authorized user fee increases by $120 from $75 to $195, the points earning multiplier is dropped for ALL travel, and points value used through Chase travel is reduced from 1.5 cents each to 1 cent each.
You can access Chase here.
$500 Edit Credit:
There is a new $500 yearly Edit credit that you must use for stays of two nights or longer. The credit is available in two installments: $250 for January to June and another $250 for July to December.
Remember that these Edit bookings are not eligible for hotel loyalty program benefits and are often at very expensive hotels. Therefore, if you want to use the credit wisely, it can be a challenge, depending on the market where you travel.
You also won’t earn points for Edit bookings that are partially offset using these two yearly credits.
Points Boost:
Instead of using Chase points at 1.5 cents per point towards all travel booked through Chase Travel, they are worth 1 cent each for most travel.
The Chase point is worth 2 cents each for booking select hotels and premium cabin tickets on select airlines.
$300 Annual Dining Credit
Cardmembers receive a $150 dining credit from January to June and another $150 from July to December, which must be used at restaurants that are part of Sapphire Reserve’s Exclusive Tables.

Conclusion
When it comes to credit cards, you always have to see what works for you and what doesn’t. I prefer simplicity and have used this card for most of my travel and dining expenses.
Remember that Chase currently categorizes travel very broadly, encompassing almost everything related to travel, including public transportation and OTA bookings.
The general travel multiplier is soon 4, but these points are worth less towards Chase travel bookings than the 3 points you earn now, and only applies to airline and hotel bookings made directly.
The problem is that it is often much easier to book through an OTA or a Travel Agent if you construct complicated itineraries, and I rarely book directly with an airline other than award tickets.
With hotels, this means earning 4 points per USD at all hotels you pay directly, regardless of whether you booked through an OTA or not. I have no issue with this.
You earn 8 points per USD if you book through Chase Travel, but I never book hotels through this service, as this is an OTA, and your elite benefits don’t apply. I sometimes book non-chain hotels, but there are always other booking channels, such as Trip, that offer lower pricing.
I spent $56K on this card last year, and my spending for the year is exactly on the same trajectory. Half to one-third of travel expenses won’t qualify under any multiplier after this refresh, and I need to start using another card for those.
The $300 travel credit is easy to use, but the annual dining credits, Doordash, Stubhub, etc., coupon book aspects are of no value to me. I need to have another look at Chase Travel later this year to see if I can utilize it more for air bookings.
I just played around with the Chase Travel, and it seems that many, if not all, of these Edit hotels are also eligible for loyalty program benefits and hence must also qualify for stays with various programs, I saw Bonvoy and Accor mentioned.
Overall, I would have preferred to keep the existing earning and usage structure, as this refreshment requires me to adjust my usage and start using another card for travel expenses that don’t qualify under any multipliers.
