Following this morning’s announcement of the “Spaceballs” sequel aiming for a 2027 release, it appears one of the project’s leading men has been revealed.
THR reports that “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Salem’s Lot” star Lewis Pullman, hot off his acclaimed turn as Sentry in Marvel’s “Thunderbolts,” is in talks to star in the film.
Emmy nominee Pullman will team up with his real-life father Bill Pullman, who returns for this after playing the Han Solo-esque character Lone Starr in the 1987 original.
The trade indicates Lewis Pullman will play Starburst, the son of Queen Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) and Lone Starr (Bill Pullman). Starburst, Keke Palmer’s Destiny and Josh Gad’s unannounced character are said to be the film’s three leading characters.
Amazon MGM Studios is behind the sequel which is targeting a theatrical release in 2027. Josh Greenbaum is directing from a script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez and Josh Gad.
As previously announced, Rick Moranis and Mel Brooks are also returning as Dark Helmet and Yogurt respectively while the new report adds Zuniga is also expected to return.
The film has been described as a “Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two’ but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.” Gad, Brooks, Greenbaum, Brian Grazer and Jeb Brody are producing.
