I’ll be honest, there have been times when I’ve tried (and failed miserably) to prop my iPhone up using my standard bifold wallet just so I could quickly set a timer and click a group photo. Needless to say, the traditional wallet isn’t designed for moonlighting as your phone’s tripod – but strangely enough, SUPCASE’s MagFlip wallet does just that.
The MagFlip is, first and foremost, a MagSafe-ready card holder for your iPhone. But when you desperately need to prop your phone up for a video call, or watch a podcast, or even film yourself, the MagFlip opens up into a tripod of sorts, letting you consume (or create) content hands-free. It works at multiple angles, in landscape and portrait mode, and can even be used as a handheld selfie stick for better composition while filming content. Oh, and it also holds up to 5 cards, while also RFID-blocking them from digital theft.

The MagFlip’s design isn’t subtle. It looks as rugged as it feels, with an all-metal body that sports industrial detail, exposed screws, a shock-absorbing bumper, and built-in magnets that provide up to 3000g of attraction force so the wallet never accidentally slips off your phone like Apple’s own MagSafe wallet. In fact, the strong magnetic grip makes the MagFlip perfect for cases too, ensuring that it stays secure on the back of your device at all times.
The design balances being a cardholder with being a stand rather seamlessly. As far as cards are concerned, they’re accessed using a metal flap on the top that opens to reveal the 5 cards inside. The flap click-locks so that it doesn’t ever open accidentally. You can choose to keep a combination of payment cards, access cards, and business cards (depending on what you tend to use or need the most). Along with the wallet, SUPCASE also provides a dedicated RFID-blocking card that prevents anyone from scanning/skimming your payment card details without your approval.
Obviously, the real estate on the back of your iPhone is pretty important, and just having a wallet on the back of it feels like a ‘wasted opportunity’, which is why the MagFlip also doubles as a stand. The wallet itself flips outwards, on a fairly secure friction hinge that can hold your phone at any angle you want. It’s sort of like the hinge seen on laptop screens, but this one’s capable enough to hold your smartphone despite being ridiculously tiny.
This ability makes it easy to use your phone hands-free, whether it’s watching something, attending a call/meeting, or even filming yourself. The magnets also allow you to rotate your phone, so the stand works in landscape as well as portrait mode… and if that wasn’t enough, remember the metal flap that secures your cards? You can open the flap a cool 45° and use it as an extra leg, turning your kickstand into an elevated tripod of sorts.
While the MagFlip sits perpetually on the back of your phone, making it easy to track, there are a handful of people who prefer detaching their wallet at times to casually carry it in the pocket. For that niche group of folks, SUPCASE even has a separate variant of the MagFlip with a built-in AirTag holder, so you can track as well as ping your wallet when it isn’t on your phone!
However, if the MagFlip isn’t your ‘flavor’, SUPCASE’s MagVault offers a simpler construction without the angle-adjusting stand. It does, however, have space for 6 cards, and comes with the same metal flap that holds the cards in place. The flap opens 45° too, becoming a rudimentary stand for your iPhone, without any of the selfie-stick and angle-adjusting features. Think of the MagVault as the iPhone and the MagFlip as the iPhone Pro!
Both wallets are in the $30-something price range, making them more affordable than Apple’s own MagSafe accessories, and definitely more so than a separate wallet/card holder and a tripod. SUPCASE is also offering an additional 13-15% discount on the wallets, so grab them now before they sell out!
