George Wendt, who earned six consecutive Emmy nominations for his performance as Norm Peterson on “Cheers,” passed away at his home this morning. He was 76.
Horror fans will remember his roles in Steve Miner’s House, John Landis’ “Masters of Horror” episode “Family,” and the “Tales from the Crypt” episode “The Reluctant Vampire.”
Wendy worked with Stuart Gordon on Space Truckers, King of the Ants, and Edmond and more recently with Joe Begos on VFW and Bliss.
His other genre credits include Dreamscape, Alien Avengers, Bryan Loves You, Aliens, Clowns & Geeks, and a segment in the ’80s revival of “The Twilight Zone.”
Wendt’s publicist, Melissa Nathan, confirmed the news: “George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him. He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time.”
