A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us a paid menu for Delta One Lounge with a question about the caviar pricing and whether it shouldn’t be complimentary.

You can access Delta’s page for Delta One Lounge here.

Delta’s Price List for Delta One Lounge:

So, you can have a nice caviar set with champagne (it should really be vodka) for $165 or 16,500 SkyMiles or an ounce without any of the fixes for $85 or 8,500 SkyMiles.

I have no idea of caviar pricing in the United States, as I usually tend to have it sometimes in Europe, so I decided to have a look at what Costco offers:

The osetra pricing at Costco varies between $40 and $60 per ounce, depending on how much you buy.

I would say that doubling the price for serving in the lounge is ok, and you can always burn some SkyMiles as well.

However, you should not only buy caviar; you really need the entire set with blinis, chopped onion, and sour cream.

When it comes to whether this should be complimentary, that’s a tough one.

Many airlines serve caviar in their international first class, such as Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Lufthansa, Thai Airways, Emirates, and others, but I cannot recall seeing it in any lounges. I remember Singapore Airlines serving lobster in their Private Room for first-class passengers.

Conclusion

Delta has been promoting these Delta One Lounges as the ultimate luxury in the United States, where airline lounges are often overrun and not necessarily calm spaces.

You can only access these lounges if flying on international business class flights (remember, Delta doesn’t offer first class).

I understand that caviar (essentially fish eggs) is not for everyone’s palate, but I find it quite tasty.

When I am in Finland, we usually prepare it a couple of times a year with family members. I also get to enjoy it occasionally in the air, and next time in September, on Singapore Airlines first class (read more here).
