“Thunderbolts” Overall Box-Office Coming In Low

Despite scoring better critical notices than most of their other fare of late, along with a robust promotional campaign, it appears audiences weren’t that keen on checking out Marvel Studios’ “Thunderbolts” in cinemas after all.

Though still in fourth place domestically at the box-office after four weeks, Forbes reports that the film will shrink its cinema footprint by the end of this coming week in various places around the globe.

As such, the film currently stands at a worldwide haul of $355 million – the third worst earning film of the MCU to date, ahead of “The Marvels” at just $206 million and “The Incredible Hulk” at $264 million, but behind early title “Captain America: The First Avenger” ($370 million), the pandemic-impacted “Black Widow” ($379 million) and “Eternals” ($402 million).

Even the much-maligned “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” managed to make it to $415 million and $476 million by the end of their runs.

The “Thunderbolts” number will still go up a little – the title still managed to make $30 million worldwide over the past seven days. It also could overtake both ‘First Avenger’ and possibly “Black Widow,” but “Eternals” would be a longshot.

In terms of profit, it has been previously floated that the film needs as little as $450 million and as high as $500 million to break even at the box-office.

No word as to when Disney intends to bring the film to PVOD platforms or the Disney+ service. The recent “Captain America” took a decidedly longer than expected 60 days to hit PVOD as opposed to the more standard 45 days.
