HBO Max’s “Hacks” has been renewed for a fifth season, the order coming ahead of the fourth season finale airing this coming Thursday.
Creators and showrunners Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky announced the news at a screening in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Warner Bros. Discovery reports that the fourth season has been the series most-watched so far, with steadily growing viewership with each episode.
The show has also been an awards darling as both it and “The Bear” have pretty much locked up the comedy categories at awards shows for several years now with “Abbott Elementary” and “Only Murders in the Building” getting the occasional outside win.
The series follows the ups and downs in the relationship between Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), a legendary comedian in her 70s, and Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder), an up-and-coming comedy writer who works for her.
Paul W. Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Mark Indelicato and Rose Abdoo co-star.
